Im Rahmen des Dresdner Mathematischen Seminars finden in diesem Semester eine Reihe von Eleonore-Trefftz-Vorlesungen statt, welche durch das Eleonore-Trefftz-Gastprofessorinnenprogramm der Exzellenzinitiative gefördert werden. The numerical simulation of nuclear quantum dynamics provides valuable insight into basic chemical reactions, especially in photochemistry and atmospheric chemistry. Over decades, chemical physicist have developed semiclassical approximations as a powerful computational tool allowing the simulation of large molecular quantum systems, as for example liquid water. The talk reviews different mathematical formulations of quantum dynamics and corresponding semiclassical approximations, before focusing on Wigner-type methods and their higher order cor-rections.
