Description

Dr. Rodriguez-Calvo is a group leader and head of the type 1 diabetes pathology research unit at the Institute of Diabetes Research, at Helmholtz Munich, in Germany. She studied Veterinary Medicine and in 2011, she completed her PhD in Veterinary Science at the Research Center for Animal Health (CISA), in Madrid, Spain. In 2012 she joined La Jolla Institute (LJI), in La Jolla, California, USA, as a postdoc. In 2017 she started her own laboratory in Munich, Germany, to continue her research focusing on the immunopathology of human type 1 diabetes. As evidence of the importance of her work, in 2015 she received the Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) Young Investigator Award for outstanding contributions to diabetes research. In 2020 she received the prestigious JDRF Career Development Award for her work in understanding the development of type 1 diabetes, and in 2025 she received the Ernst-Friedrich-Pfeiffer Award from the German Diabetes Society for scientific work and pioneering achievements in the field of etiology and the treatment of type 1 diabetes.
