 head of the type 1 diabetes pathology research unit at the Institute of Di
 abetes Research\, at Helmholtz Munich\, in Germany. She studied Veterinary
  Medicine and in 2011\, she completed her PhD in Veterinary Science at the
  Research Center for Animal Health (CISA)\, in Madrid\, Spain. In 2012 she
  joined La Jolla Institute (LJI)\, in La Jolla\, California\, USA\, as a p
 ostdoc. In 2017 she started her own laboratory in Munich\, Germany\, to co
 ntinue her research focusing on the immunopathology of human type 1 diabet
 es. As evidence of the importance of her work\, in 2015 she received the N
 etwork for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) Young Investigator
  Award for outstanding contributions to diabetes research. In 2020 she rec
 eived the prestigious JDRF Career Development Award for her work in unders
 tanding the development of type 1 diabetes\, and in 2025 she received the 
 Ernst-Friedrich-Pfeiffer Award from the German Diabetes Society for scient
 ific work and pioneering achievements in the field of etiology and the tre
 atment of type 1 diabetes.
