Generalized Peierls substitution for Wannier Obstructions: response to disorder and interaction

- I will explore the interplay between quantum geometry, interactions, and external fields in complex band systems. When Wannier obstructions prevent a description based solely on atomic-like orbitals, it complicates the prediction of electromagnetic responses, particularly in the presence of disorder and interactions. To address this, we introduce a generalized Peierls substitution framework that incorporates Lagrange multipliers to enforce the constraints of Wannier obstruction in the band of interest. This framework enables us to derive effective descriptions of interactions and disorder, accounting for the non-trivial quantum geometry of the band. We apply this approach to various examples, including the diamagnetic response in flat-band superconductors and interaction-induced delocalization effects in flat-band metals. .
