- Borexino detector is placed in the underground Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in central Italy. After several years of work, it has reached unprecedented levels of radio-purity. This brought a real breakthrough in the real-time neutrino detection and in the liquid scintillator technique in general. For the first time, the spectroscopic measurements of solar neutrino species at sub-MeV energies became possible. Geoneutrinos, antineutrinos from the decays of long-lived radioactive elements inside the Earth, have been detected. Limits on several rare processes have been set. The size of the scintillator target (sphere with 8.5 m diameter) and its radio-purity, make it an ideal tool for the search of sterile neutrinos with artificial sources (SOX project). The colloquium will bring a review about the status, results, and future prospective of neutrino physics performed with this unique detector.
