abstract

We investigate the interface of a hybrid heterostructure consisting of a topological insulator and a ferromagnet. As has been shown recently, the interface of such a system can host skyrmions as a consequence of an emerging Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction at temperatures above the Curie temperature [1]. Here, we analyze what happens in the magnetically ordered phase and in the presence of the long-range Coulomb interaction between the Dirac electrons. Due to the opening of the gap in the Dirac spectrum in the magnetically ordered phase the magnetoelectric Chern-Simons action emerges, which opens up the possibility of magnetoelectric manipulation of skyrmion structures on the interface.
