- Description
- Recently, the theory of topological Lifshitz transition has become the focus of much attention in complex materials such as high-Tc superconductors, heavy fermions compounds etc. In this talk, after briefly reviewing the basic concepts and presenting an example topological Lifshitz transitions involving dipolar fermions in optical lattices, we will focus on the case of itinerant electrons close to a ferromagnetic quantum critical point. In the latter case, the motivation is provided by recent experiments on the complex material NaxCoO2. We examine the role of paramagnetic fluctuations in the development of an additional Fermi surface. We then focus on latest results on explaining the specific heat data of NaxCoO2 and its rich physics upon doping. .
