- Description
- Dislocations are the most common defects in the periodic structure of crystals and their presence, together with their motion, is believed to be the main mechanism of plastic deformations in metals. In this talk we will focus on the screw dislocations case and we will present some recent results on the evolution of a finite system of screw dislocations, using a variational approach based on De Giorgi's Gamma convergence. Our analysis will exploit the analogies between the screw dislocations in crystals and the vortices in superconductors, studied within the Ginzburg-Landau model. The results are obtained in collaboration with Roberto Alicandro, Adriana Garroni and Marcello Ponsiglione.
