- Description
- Abstract: The concepts of nanotechnology is omnipresent within most fields of natural sciences. There are large hopes on nanotechnology as the key to solve a large range of societally relevant challenges, ranging from environmental issues to health care. In many of these areas, the use of nano science appears to be highly rewarding, while there is still significant confusion on what the concept of nano implies. I will use finite size effects of hydrogen in metals as an example of well functioning nanotechnology. I will show how the extension of materials influences the thermodynamic properties as well as diffusion of interstitials. These findings will be generalised and I will use finite size effects on magnetic ordering as a test bench on the presented ideas. The role of ion beam analysis and neutron scattering will be specially emphasised.
