ngs of the circle to 3-space up to isotopies. A classical way to distingui
sh non-equivalent knots is to find a suitable invariant that takes differe
nt values on the two given knots. In the same spirit\, given a smooth proj
ective curve over a field\, we want to classify its embeddings to projecti
ve 3-space up to a suitable notion of isotopy. We will explain how determi
nantal representations of secant varieties give rise to invariants and dis
cuss to which extent they completely classify embeddings up to our notion
of isotopy. A prominent role will be played by various variants of the wri
the. This is joint work with Daniele Agostini.
