- Description
- Twisted light [1] can carry large amounts of information over long distances, and selectively induce atomic and molecular transitions. Therefore, it holds significant promise for quantum computation and sensing technologies. In this talk, I will argue that magnetic Weyl semimetals can be used to effectively manipulate twisted light. Because of the presence of an axionic term in the emergent electrodynamics [2], a giant nonreciprocity in the surface plasmon polariton dispersions emerges. This effect will become apparent by observing the propagation direction of surface modes in a cylindrical waveguide. Moreover, it predicts that a conical Weyl semimetal tip will be able to focus surface plasmon polariton modes selectively, depending on the sign of their orbital angular momentum [3]. [1] L.
