- Description
- Complex systems in nature demonstrate how intricate patterns and behaviors emerge from the interplay of simple rules. Yet, when shifting our lens to human-designed systems, we encounter an added layer of challenge: the rules governing human behavior and decision-making are often dynamic, adaptive, and far from straightforward. Drawing on recent interdisciplinary research, I will present case studies spanning diverse domains: emergent delay cascades in railway networks, strategic tension in chess games, climbers' skill and route complexity in rock climbing, and a data-driven exploration of cocktail ingredient networks derived from empirical experiments. These studies not only deepen our understanding of human systems but also open pathways to design predictive tools for mitigating cascading failures, optimizing resource allocation, and even crafting novel culinary experiences. .
