- Description
Abstract
Episodic memory is the conscious, detail-rich memory for distinct experiences. It is accompanied by reinstatement of the neural activity that was present during encoding. However, neural memory representations do not remain static. Over time, consolidation promotes the transformation of these memories towards more generalized representations, eventually forming abstract knowledge structures. These, in turn, help with the encoding and retrieval of new episodic memories. In this talk, I will present results from three human fMRI studies investigating memory representations at different stages in this process, highlighting the roles of the medial temporal lobe and prefrontal cortex. I will then discuss how these different regions may interact to support memory retrieval.Website of Dr. Heidrun Schultz (https://www.cbs.mpg.de/person/100948/2470)
