Description

Topic: 3D Electron Microscopy
3D EM can be performed with transmission electron microscopes (TEM) using serial sections and/or Electron tomography or with scanning electron microscopes (SEM) using it either in combination with Focused ion beam milling or with an ultramicrotome in the SEM chamber. The seminar will present different methods using both types of microscopes and give some hints how to to deal with the acquired data to reconstruct 3D models of cellular structures.

Speakers:
Thomas Müller-Reichert (MTZ, CFCI)
“A short introduction to 3D techniques for electron microscopy”
Gunar Fabig (MTZ, Müller-reichert lab) "Spindles in human cells: from serial sections to cell-sized models using electron tomography"
Michaela Wilsch-Bräuninger (Huttner lab, MPI-CBG): "A microtome inside a microscope: Large(r) volumeEM by Serial Block Face-SEM”
Andreas Müller (PLID) "Strategies for (semi)automated segmentation of volumeEM datasets"
Luca Bertinetti (BCUBE) "Volume imaging of vitrified samples with Cryo-FIB/SEM: challenges and opportunities"

About BioDIP Seminars:
The Biopolis Dresden Imaging Platform (BioDIP) Seminar Series focuses on specific imaging techniques available here on our campus. The goal is to introduce you to the techniques general principles and to provide practical insights into real life experience by local colleagues who successfully applied them in their projects.
