Description
Microalgae are key contributors to global carbon fixation. They sense environmental conditions such as light or temperature by sophisticated receptor molecules and mechanisms; some will be presented here. In nature, their growth is often influenced by other microorganisms. In the lecture, infochemicals secreted by antagonistic bacteria that immobilize the microalgae will be also introduced. As genetic attractive model, the green biflagellated alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is used.
