Description
As well as being an active area of research in topology, where geometry is largely ignored, knots and links, viewed as tied configurations of tubular volumes, also pose many interesting problems related to understanding and computing their equilibrium shapes, including so called ideal or optimally tight configurations. I will describe various results along these lines, as well as showing some experimental data obtained by our collaborators in the group of Prof P. Reis at the EPFL.
