Description
It is a long standing conjecture in Model Theory that every stable field is separably closed. It was shown by Macintyre in 1971 that a field is omega-stable if and only if it is algebraically closed, a result extended by Cherlin and Shelah to superstable fields in 1979. In this talk, we will present some of the main results regarding stability in fields. We will provide a short overview of the background material, and sketch a proof of Macintyre’s theorem. We will also briefly look at separably closed fields, the only known examples of non-superstable stable fields.
