The symposium will be held from the 6th September to the 7th September 2018 at the OncoRay – National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology (Building 130). The symposium will provide an overview of different models and research methods of central nervous system pathologies. The topics range from brain tumor research in vitro to in vivo models of brain tumors to models of spinal cord injury and stroke. Main topics of the symposium are: 1. Brain tumors, stroke and spinal cord injury models (in vitro, in vivo, basics of animal experiments) 2. Experimental therapies in neuroscience 3. Translational imaging (models, small animal imaging, optical techniques) We will discuss regulatory and methodical aspects and provide protocols. Besides, we will address conceptual aspects: - What is the best method for given condition? - Is an animal experiment a reasonable approach or do alternatives exist? - What technical aspects have to be considered for translational application in humans? Furthermore, the symposium provides an insight into the diversity of the scientific infrastructure at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, the TU Dresden and the associated facilities.
