- Description
- The topology of a negatively curved or non-positively curved manifold is strongly controlled by its volume. The classical Gauss-Bonnet theorem is a prime example of this phenomenon. We discuss the following questions: How many negatively curved manifolds are there below a certain volume? Is the size of their topological invariants universally bounded in terms of their volume? We answer these questions by developing a kind of simplicial thick-thin decomposition the manifold. This is based on joint work with Tsachik Gelander and Uri Bader.
