 e theory of topological Lifshitz transition has become the focus of much a
 ttention in complex materials such as high-Tc superconductors\, heavy ferm
 ions compounds etc. In this talk\, after briefly reviewing the basic conce
 pts and presenting an example topological Lifshitz transitions involving d
 ipolar fermions in optical  lattices\, we will focus on the case of itiner
 ant electrons close to a ferromagnetic quantum critical point.  In the lat
 ter case\, the motivation  is provided by recent experiments on the comple
 x material NaxCoO2. We examine the role of paramagnetic fluctuations in th
 e  development of an additional Fermi surface. We then focus on latest res
 ults on explaining the specific heat data of NaxCoO2 and its rich physics 
 upon doping. .
