- Beschreibung
- A review of a simple, yet comprehensive, i.e., rather flexible model of an immune response (immune effector vs target/antigen) is presented and dynamical features in phase space are discussed (Mayer et al., 1995). The model is then compared to a more detailed model that splits up the effector into three components, i.e., naive, activated, and memory T cells (De Boer et al. 2013). The second model has been fitted to available T-cell time series of the aforementioned phenotypes and, therefore, claims better biologically interpretability and relevance. Yet, a closer examination reveals severe insufficiencies. Given the readiness to get into only basic features of mathematical models the first model turns out to be more instructive with respect to dynamical features of an immune response and, perhaps even to derive ideas for intervention strategies.
