  are stochastic models for the temporal evolution of spatially explicit sy
 stems of locally interacting entities (particles\, cells\, agents\, etc). 
 They prove to be important in many fields of application such as biologica
 l\, physical and social systems. The lectures will cover the construction 
 of IPSs as Markov processes with a particular state space\, important tech
 niques for the analysis of their long-time behavior\, numerical and simula
 tion methods for IPSs as well as applications to biological systems of int
 eracting cell population.
