  <p>Over the past five years\, the laboratory infrastructure at the Instit
 ute of Solid State and Materials Physics has developed rapidly. The commis
 sioning of our flagship\, the multi-purpose x-ray diffractometer SIRUS\, i
 s only the latest milestone. In addition to three unique x-ray diffraction
  systems that enable x-ray diffraction measurements on single crystals\, p
 owders and surfaces\, we have also set up a comprehensive range of complex
  sample environments such as low and high temperatures\, hydrostatic press
 ure and uniaxial strain.<br /> I will briefly introduce the available meth
 ods and sample environments and present some preliminary results as well a
 s a roadmap for future developments. We will then take a tour around the l
 abs and see the machines at work\, with plenty of time for questions and d
 iscussion.</p>
