SUMMARY:Becker: Successful spinal cord repair in adult zebrafish
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Catherine G. Becker\nInstitute of Speaker: Centre
for Neuroregeneration at the University of Edinburgh\nTopics:\nBiologie\,
Medizin\n Location:\n Name: TUD CRTD (Lecture Hall 1)\n Street: Fetscher
 straße 105\n City: 01307 Dresden\n Phone: +49 (0)351 458 82052\n Fax:
 +49 (0)351 458 82059 \nDescription: Zebrafish have an amazing capacity for
central nervous system (CNS) regeneration. They regain function after com
plete lesions of the spinal cord or the optic nerve. Such lesions in mamma
ls are not repaired and functions are permanently lost. Our research focus
ses on the fundamental questions: How can zebrafish replace lost ne
urons from adult stem cells? How are severed axonal connections repai
red? How are these processes related to developmental neurogenesis an
 d axonal pathfinding?
