Dr. Francesca Moresco, group leader at the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed), coordinates the European FET OPEN project MEMO (Mechanics with Molecules). Within this project, an international competition “Nanocar Race II” is organized on an about 100 nanometer long track on a gold surface with the aim of testing the performance of molecular machines, important for the development of technology at the nanoscale.

In March 2020, an international committee is due to visit Dr. Moresco’s race team “German Azulene Explorer – GAZE”, to evaluate their progress of the preparations for the race, due in 2021. The committee comprises Christian Joachim (CNRS Toulouse), a scientific representative from the French Embassy in Berlin, as well as an external expert Artur Erbe (HZDR). The local race team comprises members of Dr. Moresco’s and other TU Dresden groups (STM experiments, theory) as well as two chemists from the Leibniz IPF Dresden.

A public talk about the project and the Nanocar Race competition will take place in Dresden on 24 March 2020 and everybody is welcome to learn all about racing molecules.
