Beschreibung
How does our brain perceive the world? How can perception be formalized using computational modeling? To what extent is this relevant for psychology and psychiatry?
Theories of predictive coding and hierarchical Bayesian inference suggest that our perception is determined by incoming sensory input in conjunction with our prior beliefs. How everyday perception and perceptual bias can be quantified using the predictive coding framework and how computational models can be used in psychiatry will be the main focus of this lecture talk.
The first part of this lecture will be focused on an introduction to what Computational Psychiatry represents and what its aims are. The generative modeling approach in Computational Psychiatry and the predictive coding and Bayesian brain hypothesis will be introduced on a conceptual level.
In the second part, model-based results from a recent study on subclinical persecutory ideation will be discussed. This will allow to describe one computational model of hierarchical Bayesian inference (the Hierarchical Gaussian Filter, HGF) in detail.
Computational Psychiatry is an interdisciplinary field by definition, which challenges its researchers to communicate across disciplines. This will also be the spirit of this lecture talk. The goal of this lecture is to give everyone an idea of what computational psychiatry is, what computational models can do and what they cannot do.

This event is jointly organised by Medizinische Fakultät Carl Gustav Carus der Technischen Universität Dresden, Fakultät Psychologie der Technischen Universität Dresden and the University Clinics.
