Beschreibung
The Russian Federation is one of the most highly urbanised countries (over 100,000,000 people live in cities in Russia), and the city expanding process continues to increase. Nature conditions, historical background and current legislation create a specific environment for city developing processes. This fact shows that urban planning for Russian cities should fit to the SDG goal No. 11 "make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable". At the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development - Habitat III, held in Quito (Ecuador) in October 2016, a new urban development program was adopted to achieve sustainable development goal No. 11. This program brings together the best proposals to form a comfortable and safe urban environment. Habitat III Issue Paper 16 "Urban Ecosystems and Resource Management" declared highest importance of ecosystem services and defined urban planning as the main instrument for managing the urban environment. At the same time, more and more scientific publications are devoted to urban ecosystem services, which makes this area of research one of the main frontiers of modern science. What is the situation in Russia? The fact is, the transitional state of Russian cities between industrial and post-industrial stage of development form an urgent need to revise existing approaches to their planning and management. The presentation will include an analysis of the scientific papers devoted to the study and assessment of ecosystem services of urban ecosystems, as well as the existing prerequisites for the introduction of an assessment of ecosystem services in the process of Russian urban planning. The example of the city of Tyumen will be used as a case study. LILIIA SULKARNAEVA graduated from postgraduate school in human and economical geography at the University of Tyumen, Russia (2017) and she is completing her thesis on urban ecosystem services assessment for the city of Tyumen. Her research is mostly devoted to urban ecosystem services assessment for Russian cities and implementation of the ecosystem services concept for Russia. She is currently participating in the "TEEB-Russia 2" project. Apart from research activities, Liliia Sulkarnaeva teaches a Bachelor course in environmental economics and environmental design at University of Tyumen and Tyumen State Medical University and participates in the Erasmus+ project "Enhancing Competences of Sustainable Waste Management in Russian and Kazakh HEIs" for Master students.
