- AbstractNeural activity is associated at the epigenetic level with dynamic cytosine methylation and demethylation processes. Demethylation requires enzymatic oxidation of 5 methylcytosine (5mC) to 5 hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and further on to 5-formyl- and 5-carboxycytoside (5fC, 5caC) followed by removal of 5fC and 5caC by base excision repair. The enzymes responsible for these oxidation steps are the alpha-ketoglutarate dependent dioxygenases TET1-3, of which TET3 is the most abundant isoform in neurons. In this presentation, I will show novel data on the functional regulation of TET3 and discuss their relevance for neuronal function. 5 most recent papersM. Wagner, J. Steinbacher, T. F. Kraus, S.
