- Beschreibung
- Adhesive events of leukocytes contribute to multiple aspects of the inflammatory process. For instance, adhesion to the endothelium contributes to acute neutrophil recruitment to an inflamed tissue. Adhesive events between leukocytes and parenchymal cells may mediate retention of inflammatory cells in an inflamed tissue, leading to chronification of inflammation. On the other hand recognition and phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils (efferocytosis) by efferocytic macrophages in the inflamed tissue promotes resolution and termination of inflammation. Integrin adhesion receptors are major players in the aforementioned processes. The presentation will focus on the regulation of integrin adhesion receptors in initiation, perpetuation and resolution of inflammation, including our findings on an endogenous integrin regulator, Developmental endothelial-locus-1 (Del-1). A special emphasis will be laid on inflammation of metabolic organs leading to metabolic organ dysfunction and development of insulin resistance.
