- In this talk, we will explore the wonderful world of classical algebra, more precisely of field arithmetic. Here, division algebras, i.e., finite dimensional associative algebras without zero-divisors, play a crucial role. The goal is to get a better understanding of these beasts. We will see how finite dimensional algebras, like most things in life, can be understood with linear algebra. This will allow us to talk about determinants of elements which, in turn, allows us to compute zero-divisors. I will explain how an algebra can be twisted and why this (sometimes) eliminates zero-divisors. Some interesting, and possibly not too hard, open problems will be stated.
