- Collective dynamics is usually studied either in mean field models or in abstract networks, i.e. in systems without a structure in physical space. I will discuss the behavior of some one-dimensional systems in the presence of long-range coupling. In statistical mechanics, changing the rate delta of the power-law is considered as a way to tune the effective dimensionality of the system. I show that both in logistic maps and Stuart-Landau oscillators there exists a finite range of delta-values, where a new form of collective dynamics emerges, where not only the zero-mode (equivalent to the standard order parameter used in mean-field setups) remains finite in the thermodynamic limit, but a set of "hydrodynamic" modes are also self-sustained. The result is remarkable in that there is no undelrying conservation laws as in standard hydrodynamic systems.
