orbital and spin angular momentum\, has been the subject of intense resear
ch in the last decades\, from a theoretical as well as experimental point
of view\, resulting in many interesting applications in different fields o
f research\, from microfluidics to quantum information. In this talk\, aft
er a short historical review of the concept of angular momentum of light\,
I will discuss how it can be decomposed in its orbital and spin part\, th
e former connected to the field’s spatial structure\, while the latter c
orresponding to the field’s polarization. In particular\, I will discuss
the role of the beam structure of the field on this decomposition. Recent
developments concerning the introduction of OAM into the domain of optica
l pulses and its applications will also be discussed.
